NHSIA

Author of a number of NHS IT Standards Handbook chapters including e-GIF, UML, medical imaging; editor of others including HL7 and XML.  This included preparation of terms of reference, finding authors, managing the production of the chapter and organising commenting and approval by NHS and supplier representatives. 

British Journal of Healthcare Computing

Contracted for two articles on the Electronic Health Record, "The Electronic Health Record: are we ready for it yet?" and "The Electronic Health Record: is it ready for us yet?"

HL7 UK Ltd

Appointed by HL7 UK Ltd as editor of the "Understanding Version 3: a primer on the HL7 Version 3 Communications Standard".  This has now sold nearly 2000 copies, and is used as the basis of HL7 training in NHSIA and NPfIT.

BSI

Author of British Standard Guide: Healthcare Informatics Standards.  This work, involved managing a small team to produce a 70-page guide to current and near-future healthcare IT standards in the UK, Europe and internationally.  The result has been published as British Standard Guide BS 8401.

Contracted for a 5-year period to write a regular "Dr Touchstone" column, investigating IT related subjects and explaining them to readers.

NHSIA

Retained to research and produce guidance on a number of Year 2000 related activities, Legal Guidance, Risk Management, EDI messaging, IT System Testing, Benefits Realisation and the bimonthly "Silver Bullet" newsletter.

BSI

Retained to rewrite and update the 200-page Directives under which the ISO/IEC Joint Technology Committee (JTC1) are managed.

Designing and delivering a series of Risk Management training seminars for Year 2000.

Bahrain Government

Designing and delivering a 2-day Year 2000 Risk Management training course for 60 people.

Designing and delivering a country-wide series of presentations on Year 2000 awareness

Organiser and Speaker at the HL7 International Affiliates Conference in the UK in 2002.

Designing and delivering a series of seminars on the use of the NHS IT Standards Questionnaire in Procurement.

Invited to speak at national and international conferences on a regular basis, including many NHSIA events.  Papers have been given at conferences organised by HL7 UK, BJHC, the Hellenic Hospitals Association, The Medical Devices Agency, International Association for Computing in Clinical Laboratories, EyeFor Healthcare, and many others.
